TRANSLATE MESSAGE

In the article about the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.15.9 update, we announced that WhatsApp was working on a feature to translate all chat messages. This development marks a significant enhancement as WhatsApp is exploring an option to allow users to decide whether the app should automatically translate all chat messages in the future. This feature is still in development but it appears that WhatsApp is now focusing on further refining the translation experience, aiming to enhance communication across different languages. Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.15.12 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is working on a feature to automatically translate messages into a different language!

As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is currently implementing the process of translating messages from one language to another, scheduled for release in a future update. Users will be able to translate a selected message, with the option to automate this process for all new messages. After selecting the language they wish to translate the message into, WhatsApp will prompt the user to download a necessary language pack for the translation. When the message content is translated, a new label will appear within the message bubble, indicating that the message was successfully translated. This label will help users distinguish between original and translated messages, ensuring clear communication and reducing potential misunderstandings.

The implementation of this feature still relies on WhatsApp's own in-house technology, ensuring that message translations are always processed entirely on-device. This means that end-to-end encryption is preserved and user privacy is maintained as no messages are shared externally. Initial support will be limited to languages such as English, Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi, with more languages to be potentially added in future updates. We believe that this feature aims to enhance the user experience by providing enhanced and instant translations, facilitating improved conversations across different languages in the future.

A feature to automatically translate messages into a different language is under development and it will be available in a future update. We will keep you updated with an additional article as soon as we have more details to share about this feature.
